The Woods Institute for the Environment serves as the primary hub for interdisciplinary research about the environment at Stanford. We catalyze knowledge and solutions through competitive funding as well as targeted research centers, programs and initiatives that foster collaboration across disciplines and sectors.

Woods-funded teams are pursuing discoveries essential to 1) Advancing resilience to the changing climate; 2) Supporting and improving planetary health and 3) Sustaining thriving ecosystems on land and in the ocean. Explore our focal areas, publications and more below.

Across our activities we are embedding equity, access, and inclusion and a commitment to generating solutions that benefit all people, especially those most harmed by climate change and environmental damage.
