Maighdean-Mhara Coffman

Mhara Coffman is a master’s student in the civil and environmental engineering department at Stanford. Her research focuses on contaminants of emerging concern. She is currently working on projects using wastewater-based epidemiology in Dr. Ali Boehm’s group. The projects focus on tracking SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater to inform public health response during the pandemic.

While earning her Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Oregon State University, Mhara participated in Reinventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure (ReNUWIt), researching the fate of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in a man-made, subsurface wetland for tertiary wastewater treatment. She also completed her Spanish minor at the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro in Santiago de Querétaro, México. Mhara is a Gates Millennium Scholar and a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholar.
