Amalia Kokkinaki

RELP Cohort: 2016
School: Engineering

Amalia is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University. Her research background is in hydrogeology and environmental remediation. Amalia is working with the research group of Prof. P. Kitanidis, focusing on hydrogeologic applications of statistical methods for parameter estimation and uncertainty quantification. Applications she is interested in include methods for characterizing the heterogeneity of the subsurface, techniques for real-time monitoring of contaminants in the subsurface, and uncertainty quantification for subsurface remediation methods. The results of this research can be used for informing policy making related to groundwater resources management.

Amalia holds a doctorate and masters degree from the University of Toronto in Canada, Department of Civil Engineering, where she worked primarily on numerical modeling of remediation of organic contaminants from the subsurface. During her graduate studies, Amalia has received training in higher-education teaching, has been the instructor of undergraduate and graduate courses on statistical methods, and has mentored undergraduate and graduate students with their research projects. Amalias undergraduate degree is in Environmental Engineering, which she completed with honors at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. Amalia has received a number of scholarships and fellowships, including the Postdoctoral Fellowship of the National Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada.
