Join the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment for a panel discussion with the Natural Capital Project's editors of Green Growth that Works (Island Press, 2019), the first practical guide to bring together pragmatic finance and policy tools that can make investment in natural capital both attractive and commonplace. Discussion will cover the book's featured conservation and ecosystem restoration mechanisms that have proven successful around the world, including: market-based transactions, subsidies, regulation, and voluntary conservation efforts. Stanford researchers who edited and contributed to the book will address such topics as: How can we channel economic incentives to make conservation and restoration desirable? What approaches have worked best? How can governments, businesses, NGOs, and individuals work together successfully?

The Stanford-led Natural Capital Project partners with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Minnesota, The Nature Conservancy, and the World Wildlife Fund to ensure the value nature provides to society factors into all major decisions. It is a team of academics, software engineers, and real-world professionals with the optimism, commitment, and humility to work together. Their common quest is to shine a light on the intimate connections between people and nature, and to reveal, test, and scale ways of securing the well-being of both.
