Rebecca Miller

Rebecca Miller is a PhD candidate in the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources at Stanford University. She researches historic and current wildfire policies in California and their potential impacts on future wildfires in the state. Her dissertation explores the challenges and opportunities for policies related to prescribed burns and wildfire-resistant construction standards that may protect lives and property. Her current research focuses on how communities and different levels of government prepare for, respond to, and recover from wildfires in California.

Prior to joining Stanford, Rebecca worked for two years as a science policy fellow for the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI), a nonpartisan, federally funded research and development center that supports the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and other science-conducting agencies of the federal government. Her tenure there covered the end of the Obama Administration and beginning of the Trump Administration. While at STPI, she worked primarily on projects involving local climate change adaptation and earth observations.

Rebecca earned a Master of public administration in environmental science and policy from Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs and the Earth Institute. She holds a BA in history from Yale University. Rebecca's research is supported by the Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship.
