Sarina Patel

Program Manager, Policy & Engagement, Woods Institute
Sarina is an earth scientist with experience in policy, research, education, public speaking, and conservation. She brings her backgrounds together by fostering relationships between Stanford scientists and policymakers to help advance California's climate, sustainability, and environmental goals. She holds a BA from Middlebury College in Environmental Studies and Geology, and a PhD from UC Berkeley in Seismology. She spent two years at Yosemite National Park doing river restoration, and she spent a year in Sacramento as a California Council on Science and Technology Fellow, serving as an analyst in the California Legislature. At Stanford, Sarina manages the Rising Environmental Leaders Program, helps to organize Uncommon Dialogues and other events that convene experts to tackle policy problems, co-publishes a bi-weekly environmental policy newsletter, and works directly with scholars to bring their research and knowledge to policymakers in California.
