Katie Jewett

As Associate Director for Ocean Communications, Katie Jewett helps translate ocean science and solutions into stories for audiences around the world. She leads communications at the Center for Ocean Solutions and works to increase visibility for the Oceans Department, also within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. She’s passionate about the power of storytelling to shift perspectives, inspire hope, and shed new light on how to address the ocean’s most pressing challenges.

Katie previously worked at the California Academy of Sciences where she publicized biodiversity research and wrote for bioGraphic magazine. Prior to joining the Academy, she worked as a deckhand and relief engineer aboard sailing and motor vessels, documenting science through video and other multimedia pieces.

Katie has joined field expeditions to the North Atlantic Gyre, Rapa Nui, Malaysia and the Galápagos and brings a background in data-driven solutions and public outreach. She has a Bachelor’s degree in human biology from Stanford University with a focus on marine policy and science communication.

Katie lives aboard her sailboat, spending each day communicating ocean science while on the water.
