Alessandra Lehmen

Alessandra Lehmen holds a JD, as well as an LLM and a Ph.D. degree in international law, from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, and an MBA from Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Brazil. She was admitted to the Brazilian Bar in 1994 and is a partner of Brazilian law firm Juchem Advocacia. Alessandra was listed among the top Brazilian environmental attorneys by British publication PLC Which Lawyer for 8 consecutive years (2006 - 2013) and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Environmental Council of the Federation of the Industries of the Rio Grande do Sul State (CODEMA/FIERGS). She also represents the Federation of the Industries, in the capacity of a policy advocate, at the Permanent Technical Chamber of Legal Matters of the Environmental Council of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (CONSEMA-RS). Ms. Lehmen is a former member of the Steering Group of the Environmental Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Porto Alegre (2004), and she also served as President of the Student Association of the Law School of the Federal University of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (1991), Student Representative before the Departmental Council of the same institution (1992), and Student Representative at the Brazilian Bar Association - Rio Grande do Sul Chapter (1991). Finally, Alessandra is a researcher, a speaker, and an author in the field of Global Environmental Governance, focusing in the role of the law and the participation of non-state actors in the new institutional architecture concerning international protection of the environment.
