Building Coastal Resilience for Greater U.S. Security Project

The Hoover Institution, the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars jointly convened a series of discussions focused on pathways to solutions for our coastal communities on the front line of climate change.

This series featured Stanford scholars and other experts discussing how to best address these challenges through policy, technology and research. Organizers of the series produced a white paper, Building Coastal Resilience for Greater U.S. Security, published in June 2018. The paper explores challenges facing coastal communities; ways to advance U.S. resilience to climate change impacts; strengthening the sustainability and economic security of coastal infrastructure, and enhancing national security. Areas of discussion include understanding the state of scientific knowledge, identifying important gaps, and exploring relevant policies, decision-support tools, and decision-making approaches.
