Please join the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment for an in-person presentation by Dr. Landon Marston on meeting societal water demands under increasing water scarcity. Dr. Marston is assistant professor at Virginia Tech in the Charles Edward Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research evaluates human-water systems with the aim of producing new understanding and solutions towards sustainable water resources management.

Water is a critical input in producing the food we eat, the electricity powering our homes and offices, and the products we consume. The value of water as an economic input is becoming more evident under increasing water scarcity in the Western United States. Can water continue to be used in the same ways, by the same people, and in the same amounts as in the past, or will difficult tradeoffs be required? In this talk, Dr. Marston will highlight recent studies that evaluate how transitions in the energy sector, rotational cropland fallowing, and improved water productivity can enhance water availability across the United States.
