Biography

Yong Suk Lee is the SK Center Fellow at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and is affiliated with the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center. Dr. Lee examines the process of economic development from both an international relations and domestic (particularly, business and education) policy perspective. In this regard, his recent works focus on (1) how international relations impact development and trade, and (2) how firm organization impacts firm growth or inequality. His research regularly incorporates spatial and regional aspects of the economy and intersects the fields of development, international, and urban economics.
Lee received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in architecture from Seoul National University, a master of public policy from Duke University, and a master’s degree and doctorate in economics from Brown University. He also worked as a real estate development consultant and architecture designer as he transitioned from architecture to economics. Previously, Dr. Lee was Assistant Professor of Economics at Williams College.
