The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment is the hub of interdisciplinary environment and sustainability research at Stanford University. We are committed to helping produce solutions to the major sustainability challenges facing the world. Hours and Compensation

We’re looking for a student who can work approximately four hours a day at our office – up to 20 hours per week – on the Stanford campus between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is a paid internship at $15 per hour.

Roles and Responsibilities

(50%) Archive multimedia collection: Help organize, tag and upload Stanford Woods Institute’s growing collection of photography, video and other multimedia. Learn to use a custom-designed archival program to consolidate images from our numerous researchers and programs and tag in a central location for later use in social media, print and website collateral.

  • Learn to use the Woods camera and take additional photos to increase the collection
  • Assist with video shoots and editing

(20%) Website content management: Learn to use the Woods website content management system and help keep information on our various web properties current. 

  • Maintain the Woods online Calendar of Events
  • Assist with website updates to the homepage and news section
  • Assist with projects such as a new media resources portal

(20%) Constituency building and email outreach: Assist communications and IT staff with building database for email outreach, using services such as iContact and MailChimp that are used to develop newsletters, invitations and one-off eblasts

  • Add new subscribers to  constituent database; research additional information about subscribers and add to profiles
  • Assist with rollout of new eblast email templates
  • Help compile metrics on eblast mailings

(10%) Social media outreach: Build brand awareness and motivate members of our community to engage with one another and with Stanford

  • Monitor and promote Stanford Woods Institute news and events
  • Post on our Facebook page and send tweets
  • Capture photos and audiovisual content and post on social media channels
  • Report and graph social media metrics


  • At least 2 years of full-time coursework at college or university (junior level or above)
  • Competency in writing with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Interest in online and web-based tools; experience updating websites or databases is desirable 
  • Experience in shooting/editing photos, videos or design is a bonus
  • Creativity, openness to new ideas
