The Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment is the hub of interdisciplinary environment and sustainability research at Stanford University. We are committed to helping produce solutions to the major sustainability challenges facing the world. Comprising 10 percent of Stanford’s faculty and research professionals, our 150 fellows and affiliated faculty are leaders in their academic fields. They bring expertise from across Stanford’s seven schools – Business, Earth Sciences, Education, Engineering, Humanities and Sciences, Law and Medicine – to our pioneering work on environmental and sustainability issues. Hours and Compensation

We’re looking for a student who can work approximately four hours a day at our office – up to 20 hours per week – on the Stanford campus between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. This is a paid internship at $15 per hour.

Roles and Responsibilities

(50%) Social media outreach: Build brand awareness and motivate members of our community to engage with one another and with Stanford

  • Monitor and promote Stanford Woods Institute news and events
  • Post on our Facebook page and send tweets
  • Capture photos and audiovisual content and post on social media channels
  • Report and graph social media metrics

(20%) Media outreach: Help create media plans for events and announcements

  • Build media contact lists using professional media database software
  • Assist with media outreach
  • Work with reporters and editors as needed

 (15%) Media coverage: Measure the effectiveness of media outreach

  • Track and post daily media coverage
  • Help prepare media metrics reports

(15%) Writing and editing: Create content for website

  • Write news stories about events and workshops
  • Post calendar items
  • Help build experts section
  • Update faculty listings and profiles

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of full-time coursework at college or university (junior level or above)
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated interest in social media
  • Prior experience in building an active following/community with social media
  • Creativity, openness to new ideas
  • Experience with writing for the web is desirable
  • Experience in shooting/editing photos and videos is a bonus
