Milestone: 1,000th Giant Bluefin Tuna Tagged
A 10-foot-long Atlantic bluefin tuna weighing more than half-a-ton had the honor of being fitted with the 1,000th electronic tracking tag on Oct. 20 off Port Hood, Nova Scotia. The prized fish was tagged by a scientific team from the Tag-A-Giant campaign co-founded by Barbara Block, senior fellow, by courtesy.

Precourt Institute Awards New Round of Faculty Research Grants
Stanford's Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency awarded its second round of competitive research grants to members of the Stanford faculty. Seven proposals will receive a total of $824,000 in seed grants over the next year for projects designed to promote energy-efficient behaviors and technologies.

2009 Environmental Venture Projects Grants (Deadline: Jan. 9, 2009)
Stanford faculty are invited to submit letters of intent for the 2009 Environmental Venture Projects program grants. This year marks the sixth round of EVP grants, which provide seed funding for interdisciplinary research leading to practical solutions for an environmentally sustainable world. Deadline for application is Jan. 9, 2009. Proposals from all schools, departments, and disciplines are welcomed and encouraged.
