Workshop Participants

The 2006 Farm Bill Workshops workshops brought together key public and private leaders and academic experts from Stanford University and elsewhere to examine and develop these ideas. Attendees included:

• Key White House officials from both the Council of Economic Advisors and the Council on Environmental Quality
• Chief legislative staffers from Capitol Hill
• The deputy Secretary of Agriculture and other top DOA officials
• Environmental and agriculture officials from key states (e.g., California's Secretary of Resources and Secretary of Agriculture)
• Farm leaders
• Financial officials and
• NGO representatives.

At both workshops, experts in conservation biology, economics, and world trade joined these officials to discuss new approaches to the 2007 Farm Bill. Experts from Australia, Brazil, and the European Union also attended the workshops and described their nations' experiences in moving from crop subsidy to conservation approaches.
