The Woods Institute has created a series of Strategic Collaborations designed to tackle the major sustainability challenges facing the planet. These exciting new partnerships bring together top Stanford researchers and prominent leaders from business, government, and the non-profit sector to develop practical solutions to real-world problems:

• Center for Ocean Solutions. A partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and MBARI to find sustainable solutions for ocean challenges.
• Program on Food Security and the Environment. This collaboration with Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies addresses the critical global issues of food security, poverty, and environmental degradation by generating innovative and policy-relevant solutions.
• Natural Capital Project. This international project, a partnership among the Woods Institute, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund and the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment, seeks to align economic forces with conservation by developing tools that make incorporating natural capital into decisions easy; by demonstrating the power of these tools in important, contrasting places; and by engaging leaders globally.
• Program on Water in the West. This collaboration with Stanford's Bill Lane Center for the American West is undertaking research and policy initiatives to develop and demonstrate solutions to the major water challenges facing the western United States.

  The Woods Institute has launched a freshwater research program consisting of three interrelated research strategic collaborations that will address the challenge of providing clean water to the world's population.
