[Energy and Climate]

Most of the world's energy is derived from fossil fuels: oil, coal and natural gas-limited resources that cannot supply the world's long-term energy needs. More importantly, fossil fuel combustion leads to air pollution and is the single most important source of the atmospheric greenhouse gases that are responsible for global warming. In addition, many poor countries lack affordable, easily accessible energy supplies. Thus, a major challenge facing the world today is developing clean and reasonably priced energy sources that are broadly available and efficiently used.
